Broken Baby
Soooo, my baby is broken....just a broken arm but broken, none the less...and I think that I feel a hundred times worse than she does. I've played back what happened in my head a thousand times but the ending is still the same. Here's the story: We were getting ready to go out to eat. I was on the floor with Alyssa by the fireplace and had put an outfit on her that was too big. James came upstairs and went after another outfit. He brought out a new one that I wanted to save for a special occassion, so I followed him to the nursery to help him. After grabbing a shirt and pants, I turned back around and said, "Is the gate closed?"...then I heard the first noise and started to run! As I reach the top of the stairs, I saw her flying and bouncing and tumbling like a little rag doll. I heard myself scream and then scream again. I was right behind her but couldn't reach her. James yelled not to touch her. She was on her stomach at the bottom of the stairs, crying. James was at my heals and picked her up himself. He gave her to me and we sat at the bottom of the stairs crying together. We stayed there for a long time and she continued to cry off and on. She clung to me and wouldn't let me put her down. I eventually took her upstairs and got her to calm down and she fell asleep in my arms. An hour later she woke up and tried to crawl, she couldn't push herself up and she started to cry again. At that point, we knew. We took her to the ER and she was such a good little girl. We were there over 3 hours and she was calm and quiet. She let her hurt arm dangle to her side while she ate Cheerios with the other. In the end, she has a fracture in the large lower bone of her arm. She has a splint now and will get a cast on Monday. Our biggest problem now is that she is not suppose to put any weight on it, which means no crawling. It will be a challenge to keep an 11 month old (who's not walking yet) off the floor.
